A great place for a weekend getaway only two hours away from Athens is Nafplio.
The first capital of Greece is one of the most beautiful cities of the country.
The old town is amazing to wonder with great choices for coffee and food.
The Palamidi castle is glorious on the top of the hill -you can climb the 999 steps to the tops (totally worth it if it is not a very hot day- and also a walk around Arvanitia is full of amazing scenery and views of the sea.
Don't forget to visit the sleeping lion statue sculpted on a hill in the other side of town.
Since in Nafplio you will go everywhere on foot pack mostly flat shoes and comfortable clothes!
